Bookwork Wednesday!

Inconceivable: A Medical Mistake, the Baby We Couldn't Keep, and Our Choice to Deliver the Ultimate GiftI just finished this book in 3 days. I always like a real-life story, and this one fit the bill. You may have seen this couple on TV or in magazines. They were the couple that struggled with infertility and ended up pregnant with someone else's baby. You have to read the book to decipher all the details, because I will say it's a little confusing especially if you don't know much about getting pregnant.
Inconceivable by Carolyn and Sean Savage explains the medical mistake that landed these two families in this predicament, and it goes through the journey from the perspective of the Savage family (the couple who got pregnant with the wrong embryo). While the story itself is so very interesting, I would have to say that they jumped the gun on writing this book. I am not quite sure that their purpose of writing the book was relayed appropriately. I felt like their words were coated in bitterness and anger, and even by the end I didn't feel like they were changed for the better because of it. I expected to be taken aback by the awful truth of it all (which I was), but I also expected some reconciliation and redemption at the end (which I didn't get). I got the impression that no healing had taken place for this family at the time of their writing. So I guess that left me depressed and angry as well.  But it was a good, emotional read no less, and you can't help but feel the grief and pain that this family experienced and continues to experience. If you're up for a roller-coaster ride of reality then get in line. If you're already on the verge of complete insanity, please, do us all a favor and stay away.

Of course there are always 2 sides to each story. I have yet to pick up the other book about this experience, written by the couple whose baby was the result of all this. I'll head right out and get it once my library has it on their shelves, and I'll let you in on the other half of the journey.

  1. Even though I REALLY want to read this, the truth is I AM on the verge of insanity, so I'd better not. But I do want the full re-cap of the second book when you get it! Ha!
